Brno, Feb 8 (BD) – Brno is planning a reconstruction of Moravské náměstí worth CZK 30 million, TV Architect website reports. The square will be home to a new relaxation zone with a restaurant, café, children’s playground, and multifunctional area.
Town hall of Brno-střed District is managing the whole project. The work could begin this year or next year. Originally, the start of the reconstruction was planned for the beginning of 2018. Currently, a public contract is being prepared for the project documentation contractor.
The winning design of architects Janice Šipulová and Martina Sládek from the “Consequence Forma” company emerged from an open architectural competition.
“Despite the fact that Moravské náměstí is the largest square in Brno, people are just passing through it nowadays because they do not feel comfortable there. Our intention is to make it a modern, lively, cultural and relaxing place. We decided to go through the public architectural competition so that we can choose from many quality designs and find the best one,” said Martin Landa, Mayor of Brno-střed.
The new dominant feature of the park is the multifunctional area, which the architects call Urban Park Square. “The oval area in the central part of the park should serve for various purposes. In summer, children can play amongst fountains, or there can be exhibitions or theater performances; in the evenings, there can be film screenings, concerts, or sports broadcasts. In winter, we count on traditional advent markets, ice rinks, just whatever will be needed, ” Martin Sládek, the author of the project explained.
