Brno, Feb 13 (BD) – The lion cubs were born on December 29, the first coming into the world at 19:53 and the second at 23:55. For Kivu, it was her first experience giving birth, and she’s now learning to take care of them.

“We weighed and vaccinated the youngsters, and of course we also checked their sex. One lion is a boy, the other is a girl. Kivu is a caring mother despite giving birth for just the first time,” Zookeeper of Mammals Dorota Gremlicová from Zoo Brno said yesterday in the official press release.

The little male weighs nearly seven kilograms, whereas the female weighs a little less, Zoo Brno spokesman Vaňáč Michal reported.

“The lion twins don’t have names yet, but this will change soon. One name will be chosen by visitors and fans of Zoo Brno on the official website of the zoo and on its Facebook page from the end of February. The second name will be chosen by their godfather,” Vaňáč explained.

This is the first time lions have been born in captivity in Brno since 1993.
