Brno, Apr 26 (BD) – Last week at Brno’s Technological Park, S.A.B. Aerospace opened a 700-square metre integration hall that includes three specialised laboratories with features unparalleled in the Czech Republic. It is designed to be used by experts to assemble rockets and space satellites, among other forms space technology.
Built by Brno’s S.A.B Aerospace s.r.o., this project had support from its Italian headquarters, the Ministry of Transport of the Czech Republic, the City of Brno and Brno Technological Park.
Two of the rooms in the hall will be used to produce electronics, wiring, smaller equipment and ground support equipment. In another room, S.A.B. Aerospace is going to assemble the larger parts with the help of a crane. One of the first projects that experts will work on in this new space is the development of the top section of the European VEGA, also known as Space Dispenser, a rocket that carries satellites into space.
“Earlier, it was possible to send about four satellites with one rocket. But we came up with the idea of sending sixteen at the same cost. This means that the cost of 40 million euros will be split between more customers and will be reduced. It will enable the participation of European universities, for whom the launch of their satellites is now more affordable,” explained Petr Kapoun, director of S.A.B. Aerospace, according to an official press release.
Thanks to this project, the Czech Republic will be one of the seven European countries to have its flag on the rocket and take part in deciding when, how often, and what institutions will be able to use it. Brno has put itself on the map of the universe!
