The nice spring weather has a way of leading many of us to the conclusion that the winter has been rough on our midsection and our inactivity was bad for our conditioning. Furthermore, given the fresh air, we may also feel a more immediate connection to nature. Photo: Filip Kocián

Brno, Apr 27 (BD) – Weight loss, conditioning and helping nature are but a few reasons why Do Prace Na Kole — To Work By Bike — has become a popular program that will be held around the country for the eighth time this year.

The participation fee through to April 30th is 390 CZK, and includes a T-shirt and discounts, benefits and social events.

Teams are from two to five people. Each person logs their daily distance on the internet. Top teams in each city will win prizes, including bicycles, scooters and event tickets.

It is a natural team-building exercise that many companies have embraced.

The increase of bikes on the roads is better for traffic and perhaps even shows the need for additional infrastructure changes to city designs.

Though To Work By Bike is mostly a team competition, individuals can participate, too. It is also possible to participate as a walker or a runner, and even scooters and wheelchairs can used.

The competition stretches through the month of May.
