Brno, May 10 (BD) – Sometimes, nature decides to present us with a natural spectacle that make us feel small in a world where, most of the time, human beings think and act like everything is under control.
Over the next few days in Brno, you will be able to witness some of these displays of nature, described by nationalgeographic.com as “…an electrical discharge caused by imbalances between storm clouds and the ground, or within the clouds themselves…”, better known as thunderstorms.
Lightning is very hard to capture for photography enthusiasts and professionals alike, since it can strike down suddenly at any time and anywhere. For this same reason, we mustn’t forget that this natural phenomenon can be as dangerous as it is impressive.
According to nationalgeographic.com, “About 2,000 people are killed worldwide by lightning each year. Hundreds more survive strikes but suffer from a variety of lasting symptoms, including memory loss, dizziness, weakness, numbness, and other life-altering ailments. Strikes can cause cardiac arrest and severe burns, but 9 of every 10 people survive.”
As stated by the website weather.gov, “If you hear thunder, lightning is close enough to strike you”. Thus, to keep safe from the threat of a thunderstorm, you should take some of the following precautions:
- Move to safe shelter;
- Never lie flat on the ground;
- Never take shelter under an isolated tree;
- Stay off corded electrical equipment that put you in direct contact with electricity;
- Get out of and away from bodies of water.
