Brno, Aug 24 (BD) – The Deutsch family had a distillery and vinegar factory on Pekařská Street 78 in Brno (map) in the interwar period. In 1937, Otto Deutsch built his own house, based on the project of architect Max Tintner, on the new street of Jan Máša (today Mášova street), where he moved with his wife Berthe in 1938.

During the Nazi occupation the family’s possessions were confiscated. The Nazis took their factory on Pekařská Street and the house on Mášova Street. In 1942 the couple was deported to Terezín and then to Warsaw, where they both died in April 1942.

According to the Encyclopedia of Brno, the business and its assets were gradually returned to the family after the war. After the communist government takeover in February 1948, the family business was nationalized and its management was handed over to a state firm Rájecké závody lihovarské, n.p. Rájec nad Svitavou.
