Brno, Sep 3 (BD) – On Monday, September 3, a long-awaited renovation of water supply and sewage systems will begin at Gorkého and Arne Nováka Streets. After the renovations are completed, the two streets will be entirely revamped.

Gorkého street will be re-opened in December 2019. The two streets will be aesthetically enhanced with more green: newly planted trees, such as cherry and pear trees, will offer a shadow for pedestrians during spring and summer months. New benches will be placed on the sidewalks. Citizens can expect extended sidewalks, new, safer street crossing. The city will also set aside parking spots for bikes and car sharing programs.

The works will start on Gorkého Street in the section between Úvoz and Čápkova Streets; at the same time, the Brno Heating Plant (Teplárny Brno) is conducting maintenance works in the area. The entire Gorkého Street will be closed for several months in the fall and winter months of 2018/2019 when this section of Gorkého Street is worked on. In March 2019, reconstruction will continue in other sections of Gorkého Street. Additionally, the renovation of Arne Nováka Street will start. Simultaneously with the renovations of the water supply and sewage systems, the construction works of the gas pipeline will also commence in the spring of 2019. Both Gorkého and Arne Nováka Streets will be completely closed.

According to the official city’s website monitoring the road works in Brno, Kopemezabrno.cz, while the streets will be closed to traffic, people will still be able to access the buildings. Car parking, for example, for supply, or for local residents, will be possible, once arrangements are made with the contractor. “To be able to enter the blocked off streets, or to acquire a parking permit, a resident will be required to provide their phone number, in case their car blocks the construction,” Kopemezabrno.cz states.
