Brno, Sep 2 (BD) – Two of the six statues, namely, Joseph of Leonessa and Fidel of Sigmaringa, will be renovated by the end of this year; the renovation works on the remaining four statues will be completed by 2020. “The Capuchin Church of the Holy Cross and the adjoining Capuchin Monastery undoubtedly belong among the most prominent sites in the city center… Now, we will work to make this site even more attractive,” the Capuchin order in Brno writes on its Facebook page.
The total costs of the renovation are estimated at 600 thousand crowns. The City of Brno will donate 495,000 crowns to the Capuchin Provinces in the Czech Republic, the owner of the church, gardens, and the famous crypt, according to the official press release of the city of Brno on August 21.
Five of the six statues were created by Brno’s local sculptor Jan Adam Nesmann in the first half of the 18th century. From the left, they represent Joseph of Leonessa, Fidel of Sigmaringen, Francis of Assisi, Antonin Paduansky, and Felix of Cantalice. The sixth statue of Vavrinec from Brindisi, sculpted by Čeněk Vosmík, was added in the beginning of the 20th century.
