Brno, Sep 4 (BD) – The delay is due to the subsidy approval process taking longer than expected, Czech local daily Brněnská drbna reported last Thursday (“Očekávaná rekonstrukce Zvonařky se odkládá o půl roku”). The administrative process will likely be completed by the end of this year, but the renovation work will not begin until next spring at the earliest, as some work is not possible during the winter months and certain technology cannot be used.
“Zvonařka is dirty and hardly accessible by public transport,” said Markéta Svobodová, a resident of the center of Brno, echoing a common criticism. The owner of the bus station, ČSAD Brno holding, a.s., is preparing for a complete renovation of the station, based on a project by young Brno architects from Chybik + Kristof Architects and Urban Designers.
“The project will consist of a full modernization, especially increasing its functionality and clarity and esthetic unification of the bus station premises. […] On the surface of the bus station will be all the flags of European Union member countries, and the roof structure is going to be lit by thousands of LED light strips,” according to the architects’ description of their project, called Zvonarka 2.0.
The project’s expected completion date is sometime in 2019 or 2020.
