According to the preliminary statistical balance of the Czech Statistical Office (CZSO), the Czech Republic population is now 10,625,400. The number has increased by 15,400 in the period from 1st January to 30th June 2018. The Czech population increased by 17,700 during the first six months of the year as a result of net immigration. Brno, Sep 15 (BD) – In 2018, 11,500 people emigrated from the Czech Republic while 29,200 immigrated. The Czech Republic has become home to 7,800 more foreigners than a year previously. Compared to the same period of 2017, people moved more in both directions in 2018, and overall net migration was higher by 5,200 this year, according to the September 11 official press release from the CZSO.
Citizens of Ukraine were the main part of both immigrants and emigrants, and registered the highest net migration of 5,600 in the first half of 2018. The second biggest group were Slovaks, with a net immigration of 2,700 people. Romanian and Bulgarian nationals followed, both with a positive net migration of 1,100.
As the number of deaths exceeded the number of live births by 2,300, overall population growth was positive, while the balance of natural change was negative. Owing to higher mortality in men than women, and increased birth rates after World War II, men aged 70–74 years were the largest group among deceased men. The most common age for mothers in the Czech Republic was 30 in 2018, reported CZSO.
