Brno, Oct 14 (BD) – The Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (CHMI) announced on their website that “we assume that the temperatures in the period from 8 October to 4 November 2018 will be above average for our territory.” They add that: “Average weekly temperatures will fall gradually into autumn, but they will likely remain above normal in the week beginning October 15. By the end of October and early November, we expect average weekly temperatures to return to normal for the season.”
The average temperature in the Czech Republic in October (Oct 8-Nov 4) between 1981 and 2010 was 7.5 °C. The lowest average temperature, reported in 1997, was 4.2 °C, and the highest was 10.4 °C in 2000.
The average temperature for the following four weeks is expected to be 8.8 °C.
This year, the six months from April to the end of September were the warmest since measurements began in Klementinum Observatory in Prague in 1775, with an average temperature of 20.1 degrees Celsius, according to the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute, as reported on the Czech online news website Novinky.cz (“Mimořádně teplý půlrok. Takové období meteorologové nezaznamenali 243 let”).
Indian summers, periods of mild, warm, and dry weather, occur sometimes in the Northern Hemisphere in Spring or Autumn. In the Czech Republic, a similar phenomenon known as “Babí léto” occurs closer to the end of the summer, rather than in Autumn, according to some sources.
