Brno, Aug 28 (BD) – “As the Grand Hotel Bus Station is an outdoor station, public facilities, such as a waiting room and restrooms are really missing. There are just a few benches to sit on and wait for the bus. There is a small stand where passengers can buy cigarettes, coffee, or a beverage, but the service is not very different from any other newsagent. I prefer to use the lounge of Student Agency at Hlavni Nadrazi (Brno Main Train Station) to have a cup of coffee or to use the restroom,” Ali, a Turkish student, who commutes regularly from Brno to Vienna, explains.
The DPMB is now building a new facility with toilets for passengers (3 for women, 3 for men), a separate WC for people with disabilities, a cleaning room, and drivers’ room to relax in during the daytime. Katerina, a Greek student who likes to go on trips from the Grand Hotel Bus Station, says: “This is really good news. I hope they will keep the facilities in good condition. However, the bus stop still needs more improvements. There are not that many benches or places to sit. And there is only one newsstand where you can buy something to eat. Otherwise, you have to leave the bus station and cross a busy road and walk for 5-10 minutes to get to the shops that are located on the other side of the road from the main train station.”
Apart from public restrooms we are also planning to build new benches at the platforms at Grand Hotel Bus Station, Brno Transport Company (DPMB), the station’s owner, reported at a press conference last Wednesday. These works are expected to be completed by the end of August. The costs are estimated at around 8 million crowns.
The DPMB’s future plans are to build a waiting room for passengers and additional facilities for bus service employees, Barbora Doležalová, the DMPB spokeswoman added.
