Brno, Oct 4 (BD) – In 2012, the Salvation Army launched a project called “Prevention of Homelessness”, with the goal of helping homeless people to stop being dependent on temporary accommodation in shelters and return to normal living standards.
Brno-střed Town Hall chose a suitable location for this service at Bratislavská 40, and in 2014, on the basis of the cooperation agreement, handed over the first 21 training flats to the Salvation Army.
The project has now made another important step forward and taken another 21 new “training flats” from Brno-střed Town Hall, said Kateřina Dobešová, spokeswoman for Brno-střed Town Hall.
In addition to the “training flats”, there are also communal kitchens, toilets and showers, a food store and facilities for Salvation Army personnel.
Salvation Army social workers help the residents acquire and develop skills in household management, proper payments of rents and other services, keeping the flats clean, cooking, and many other areas. The social workers encourage the residents to find and maintain employment, keep savings, seek regular medical care, and maintain regular personal hygiene.
The goal of the project is to develop clients’ skills in such a way that they are fully self-sufficient and independent of social services in the shortest possible time, explained Dobešová.
