24-year-old student was murdered by her ex-boyfriend in arboretum of Mendel University in Brno.

Brno, August 30 (BD) – The Supreme Court refused the appeal of Radúz Šafránek and confirmed the sentence of 18 years of imprisonment for brutally murdering his ex-girlfriend in arboretum of Mendel University in Brno, Czech TV reported yesterday.

The defendant denied his guilt in both Olomouc and Brno courts. The evidences were clearly pointing to him.

The tragic incident took place last March and according to the judgement, the 24-year-old victim and the culprit met at the park to discuss the reasons of their break up.

The woman was brutally stabbed 25 times all around her body and died on the spot. The culprit took away her purse and coat and escaped.

The indirect evidence against Šafránek includes, in particular, camera recordings, odor traces, handkerchiefs on which the girl and the culprit’s blood was found, and a knife case from the crime scene with Šafránek’s DNA.

To the family of the victim a compensation of 2.1 million crowns was issued by the court.
