Brno, Sep 6 (BD) – Brno-center municipality [Brno-střed] inaugurates today at 19.00 a monument in memory of all those cyclists who have lost their lives in traffic accidents. Photo: Brno-střed visualization.
The impulse for the construction of this monument was the fatal collision with a vehicle that took the life of Petr Hurník, Brno’s architect last year on Pekařská street.
The monument will be installed at Pekařská 66 and it will serve as a reminder of all cyclists’ lives taken in the city of Brno. The memorial will replace the ‘Ghostbike’ that had been spontaneously installed at the place earlier.
The memorial was designed by Igor Serenčko. The monument resembles a bike and at the same time Petr Hurník’s glasses.
Michal Doležel, member of the Council of Brno-střed, explained that during the event people can purchase monument-shaped brooches and added that he would be very glad to see people coming to remember Hurnik or other cyclists who had a similar fate. “We’ll be glad if people come to support the idea,” he said.
