Masaryk University has announced the launch of the largest online database of Czech flora and vegetation at www.pladias.cz.

Brno, Apr 5 (BD) – The launch of a comprehensive database of the distribution of various plant species across the country, “their properties, ecological requirements, and integration into plant communities,” was announced on Masaryk University’s website on March 30.

The new database is available for free in the Czech and English languages. Search results show data in the form of detailed information on species, their location on an interactive map of the Czech Republic, links to academic literature, and photos. Searches can be done by Czech or Latin names of the species.

On pladias.cz, both scholars and the general public can find and download free datasets (for example, a species list of Czech flora or the Red List of critically endangered plants).

The letters in the name of the new database stand for Plant Diversity Analysis and Synthesis Centre.

The new online database “contains critically revised data about Czech flora and vegetation prepared by Masaryk University, the Institute of Botany of the Czech Academy of Sciences, and the University of South Bohemia,” reads the official description at pladias.cz.
