Brno Apr 25 (BD) – The mammoth was first introduced to the public in 1928 as a part of the exhibition ‘Člověk a jeho rod’ at Brno Exhibition Centre, which was dedicated to findings from the stone age excavated in Moravia. The exhibition was arranged by Karel Absolon and sponsored by the famous footwear company T. & A. Baťa and president Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk.
In 1962, the mammoth was moved to his current home at the Anthropos Pavilion in Pisárky.
For this special anniversary, Moravské zemské muzeum has prepared an afternoon and evening program.
From 2pm to 6pm on May 1, there will be art workshops, lectures and interactive games for children and adults, including a round of the popular activity ‘geocaching’ on the museum premises.
The evening program starts at 6pm with the official celebration of the mammoth’s 90th birthday, and an award ceremony for the first ever Golden Mammoth Award, which recognises contributions to the popularization of archeology.
From 7pm to 9pm, leading Czech cellist Dorota Barová will give a musical performance, followed by a group dance performance by the ballet school Baletní škola Baláž.
The ten minutes before 9pm are reserved for a light show with theatrical effects, followed by Brno rock band Animal Farm from 9pm to 10pm to close the evening with a ‘farm rock’ concert.
In addition to the official program, the art project ‘Street Art Picnic‘ will take place on April 30 (12pm – 6pm) and May 1 (11am – 6pm). Organized by art group Skull Art z.s., the project aims to connect science with art, and encourages anyone who is creative to participate regardless of age.
