Brno, Jun 12 (BD) (updated) – “This morning we were notified of a needle sticking out of the seat of one of our bikes on Hrnčířská Street. Please use extra caution, especially when mounting a bike, and always check it properly. If you encounter something dangerous, do not hesitate to contact us,” the company wrote in one of its Facebook groups yesterday.
The 44-year-old man suffered the needlestick injury on Monday morning when he attempted to borrow the bicycle and laid his hand on the seat, the Metropolitan Police of Brno (MPB) reported in an official press release yesterday. A police patrol confirmed that there really was a needle, which had probably been deliberately placed, sticking out of the seat of the bicycle. The patrol disinfected the injury and recommended that the victim go to a hospital.
The patrol also found that the site is monitored by CCTV cameras and managed to get in touch with their operators. The municipal police has handed the case to the national police for further investigation of a possible crime.
“That bicycle and all others bicycles in the immediate vicinity were checked carefully after the report, and the case was handed over for investigation by the Police of the Czech Republic. Do not hesitate to contact us if you have any new information,” Rekola added.
The Faculty of Education of Masaryk University in Brno and many others have shared the warning on social media.
