Brno, Jul 14 (BD) – Two days before the start of the holidays a new public pier opened at Brno Dam, and a grand ceremony was held on “U Sirky” beach in Rakovec. Measuring 8×18 meters, the pier is said to be the largest in the Czech Republic, and cost around 3.7 million CZK. But the pier is now closed and taped off.

Deputy Mayor Martin Ander previously stated that the pier would not just be for swimming or sunbathing. “We’ll try to attract visitors and then have cultural events,” he said. Over the last nine years, many people have flocked to the beaches of Brno Dam.

But just two weeks after the grand opening ceremony, the new bathing jetty is closed and entrance is prohibited, as there is no handrail and ladder to enter the water. As reported in Czech national daily Blesk last Thursday, the Hungarian firm responsible for its construction was unable to complete the work in time (“Legrace jako Brno! Před 14 dny na přehradě otevřeli molo za skoro čtyři miliony, nyní je už zavřené!”).
